Got Questions?

See the FAQ below and if you don't find the answer you're looking for there, please ask it here and we'll be back as soon as possible!

  • How do you become a member?
There are three paths to membership: 1. Set Up a Discovery Call: To apply directly, set up a discovery call to hear more about membership and let us learn a bit about you and what you'd like to get from membership. 2. Come to an event: If you attend a Project 1490 event to get a taste of what it's about and the culture we are aiming to build; you will be invited for membership if this is a great fit for you. 3. Be Nominated: If you are nominated by a Project 1490 member, you are given first priority to be invited to become a member. Nominations from other networks are also considered, but don't hold the same priority acceptance as member nominations.
  • Can anyone become a member at anytime?
No. Membership is open to women, (anyone who identifies as female), in corporate careers for at least 10 years and are between Manager and C-Level titles. It is also curated to maintain a diversity of industry, backgrounds, and titles and to maintain a great member experience, acceptance for membership will be paced so we are able to onboard each and every member well.
  • What is the culture of this community and what's my responsibility in it?
Project 1490 has a "Code of Culture". This is how we ensure Project 1490 isn’t just a community, it’s a launchpad for each and every member wherever they’re headed. The culture of this organization is essential to that mission and as members, each of us is responsible for maintaining it. Here's how we roll: 1. Be the Grace and the Grit Chase growth like it’s the last bus of the night. Let’s expand and celebrate all sides of who we are and encourage others to do the same. Comfort zones; shmumfort zones. 2. Get Real Keep it absolutely real. Let’s make this a space where you and all people are comfortable showing up as their authentic selves. Trust isn’t just expected; it’s everything. 3. Ride or Die Be the MVP in someone else’s journey. Celebrate the wins, have a shoulder ready for the rough days, and offer your strength in moments of doubt. 4. Celebrate Every Voice Our differences? They’re our secret sauce. Let’s ensure everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. Encourage others to proudly showcase what makes them exceptional and unique. 5. Share the Wealth Got skills or killer advice? Pass it on. We’re all about sharing the wisdom that helps us all level up 'cause no one can do it alone. 6. Keep It Positive Roadblocks happen. Let’s tackle them with a smile and enough positive energy to light up a city. Remember, this community is new, so feedback is welcome—and just like each of us, it won’t be perfect, but it will be great! 7. What Happens in1490… Stays in 1490. Bluntly: No screenshots, no shared pics, no gossip, and unless you’re given permission by the member to share—don’t. Let’s respect personal and professional boundaries and make this community safe and empowering for everyone. We recognize this network provides a great opportunity to find new jobs, new clients and new friends, but please use the appropriate channels to reach out to members you haven't met. There's nothing that sends people packing quite like being bombarded. 8. Never Stop Growing Life’s too short to stand still. Let’s commit to being a little more badass every damn day, together. This is how we ensure Project 1490 isn’t just a community, it’s a launchpad for each and every member wherever they’re headed. The culture of this organization is essential to that mission and as members, each of us is responsible for maintaining it.
  • Are the events free or at an additional cost?
Some events will be free, while others will be an additional cost. This is the way we are able to keep the membership price low and charge for the things that you actually come to. Each membership level has it's own discount for all paid events.
  • Are all events members-only?
No. Many events, both live and virtual, are members-only; but as we are a growing community, there are also events that are open to qualifying non-members. In addition, there are events that are "member-guest" so that each member can bring a friend or colleague that isn't a member.
  • What is the difference between "priority" and "premiere" access to events?
"Premiere access" means any ticketed event or retreat with limited enrollment will be offered first to members in the Maverick Level for a limited time. When that window closes, members in the Pioneer level will have access to tickets. If any tickets remain, those will be offered to qualifying non-members, if the event is not member-only.
  • When and where are the retreats?
Project 1490 retreats will come in many shapes and sizes throughout the year. It's our hope to have at least one BIG retreat per year where we can bring the community together. We will also host one-night to three-day retreats throughout the year that cater to different activities and different levels of "roughing it". While most of these events will be in the New York vicinity in our first year, we're already looking at venues from Montana to Croatia to provide unique experiences as we grow.
  • What are the local meetups?
As we get a critical mass of members in a location, we'll offer the opportunity for Project 1490 "ambassadors" to organize local activities for members to meet in person, learn some badass stuff and network in a totally unique, Project 1490 way. Local meet-ups may not be available in every location. If you're interested in becoming a Project 1490 Ambassador in your city, please let us know!
  • What are the monthly networking introductions?
Each month, members will be introduced to two other members for them to schedule a zoom, meeting or call to get to know each other and see how they might be of help to the other. The intros are randomly chosen through Slack (so you must join the Slack instance to get this benefit). If you want specific introductions to members, that is where the "introduction request" benefit kicks in.
  • What are the "Specific Member Introductions" and how do I request them?
This benefit gives us an elegant way of providing introductions to members who you really wish to meet, without having people be overloaded by reach-outs. The Pioneer level comes with two and the Maverick level comes with four. While members have the ability to reach out to any other member via Slack, or come to events to connect with each other -- if a member is trying to "sell" another member on their company -- this introduction is the best way to navigate that relationship. To request specific introductions, please email info@project1490.
  • How often will there be events?
Great question! As we begin, there will be live or virtual events every month -- sometimes more. We will gauge the interest and desire for frequency with members to add more or less as we go.
  • What kind of virtual events will there be?
We have big plans here! Starting with our "Conversation with a Badass" fireside chats with truly kick-ass leaders who's stories are inspirational. Keeping with the culture of the community, the plan is that these will NOT be your typical conference chats! We're also planning virtual events from poker nights to learning self-defense (!)) -- and we're always looking for new ways to bring Project 1490 to life virtually.
  • What is the Mavericks Annual Event?
Exclusively for Maverick members, this event will be held in 2025 and bring together our first-year crew of Mavericks for a very Project 1490-worthy event! We'll be testing out ideas with members in the coming months.
  • What are "Curated Personal Event Opportunities"?
This is a benefit of the Maverick Level of membership and offers the ability for members to suggest specific activities that they'd like to particpate in or skills they'd like to learn. Project 1490 will act as the "Concierge" and curate those experiences as able and promote to the membership to get whatever critical mass is needed to put on the event. For instance, if a member always wanted to learn how to catch, saddle and ride a horse -- Project 1490 will make every effort to find the place where that can be done. If the event takes a minimum of 5 people to do it, we'd then put it out to the larger community to get another 4 members who are interested and we'll make the event happen! There will no doubt be some limitations to what we can pull off, but we're all ears to get this going!
  • What is the "Private Event Access"?
This provides the ability for members to book a private "Day of Badassery, retreats or potentially other types of events, for their clients, teams or companies. This can be an incredible and unique way to either do team-building or get much closer with clients. Events and activities can be customized for the group and prices do vary. Both Pioneer and Maverick levels are able to tap into this benefit, based on availability.
  • What is The Canvas Experience?
The Canvas Experience is our sister company which provides mobile glamping within about an hour of Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Luxury glamping tents can be set-up in backyards and campgrounds for party lounges, sleepovers, family camp-outs, dining, pop-up guest rooms etc. Maverick level members receive a 15% discount on any booking. More details can be found at www.thecanvasexperience.com
  • Does membership pay for itself financially?
Yes, it does. Depending on how many events you attend and which tier membership you choose will affect when it pays for itself, but typically it will be within 2-3 events.
  • What is the time commitment needed to be a part of Project 1490?
The time commitment will vary by member and what they wish to get from the experience. The minimum commitment would be a couple hours a month total -- (two 30-minute zooms for member introductions, and perhaps a virtual event or time spent on Slack). It would increase from there depending on the number of events you choose to attend, which is entirely flexible. A member may choose to come to one day event per quarter, another may choose to come only to the main retreat, another may do a mix as their schedule allows. Bottom line, there are many shapes and sizes of membership and we have built the community to have that flexibility as we are made up of high-achieving, busy professionals.
  • What should I expect for the "Discovery Call"?
This is a community of real people, not numbers. We want to get to know you and how we can help you get the most out of this experience. You'll speak directly to Sarah, the founder about what attracted you to Project 1490, where you are in your career and what you're wishing for! You can hear more about the vision, the community, the events and ask any questions you may have.
